Family Negotiations

You are about to conduct several typical ‘family’ negotiations in the home. The first of these are scenarios you might find yourself in with your partner. The second set of questions looks at typical situations from both the perspective of parents negotiating with their children and also teenagers negotiating with their parents. Hopefully, you will find that these questions raise some familiar issues for you.

Please bear in mind that we are not offering moral advice in any of these situations, just some tips on how to negotiate effectively.

  • Negotiating for Teens & Kids
Great, you are about to see a series of different scenarios in which you would be required to ‘negotiate’ either with your parents (if you are a teenager) or your children (if you are a parent). You should find it useful looking at these negotiations from both sides of the ‘table’.

For each of the 26 questions, select your answer by clicking on one of the ‘multiple choice’ options. Once you have done this, you have the option to either proceed straight to the next question, or to reveal the answer scores and a short summary telling you why your answer was right, or why it could have been better.

For each question there is a "best" answer worth a score of 4 points, with the other answers being graded 1 to 3 points, depending on their merit as an alternative.

At any time you can view a series of tips in our Troubleshooter section, which contains further information and videos should you wish to explore any aspect of negotiation in more depth.

At the end of the scenario, you will be given a percentage score indicating how well you have done. There will also be the option to share these results with your friends and colleagues via social media channels.
